The basic technology for untethered trailer tracking has been around for at least five years, but transforming the concept from vaporware to practical commercial product has been a series of frustrating stops and starts. Many fleets quickly understood the advantages of locating trailers anywhere and anytime, and they've been waiting with some impatience to adopt a workable system. Developers, too, felt great frustration as they struggled with coverage, reliable power supplies, and above all else, cost. The wait is finally over. A number of fully functional, cost-effective trailer tracking systems have entered the market in the last year.
