Tonnage falls in March

The American Trucking Assns. (ATA) seasonally adjusted For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index fell 3.3% in March, the largest month-to-month contraction since August 2006, the trucking lobby said. According to ATA, the seasonally adjusted tonnage index was at its lowest level since November 2007, and contracted 0.2% compared to March 2007, the first year-over-year decrease since October 2007. The seasonally adjusted tonnage index remained unchanged in February.
