Swift Hires COO, Says Goodbye to CFO

Phoenix-based truckload operator Swift Transportation has hired Robert Cunningham as its new president and COO, also adding him to the board of directors. Formerly vp-sales & marketing for Swift from 1985 to 1997, Cunningham is expected to become the carrier’s CEO by the end of 2005. Cunningham is in the process of selling off his Arizona truck dealership, Cunningham Commercial Vehicles, as it is a distributor of Freightliner, Sterling and Western Star trucks – brands used by Swift – and would create a conflict of interest for him.
