HURRICANE IMPACT: Norfolk Southern reopens intermodal terminal

Railroad operator Norfolk Southern Corp. has reopened its intermodal terminal in New Orleans, which had been closed since Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast Aug. 29. The Norfolk, VA-based railroad said its terminal is now accepting inbound and outbound shipments at the gate and added that its Oliver Yard Terminal, which serves local industrial customers and interchanges freight with the Port of New Orleans, has also been reopened for business. “The restoration of intermodal service will assist with the transportation of reconstruction and relief materials to the Gulf Coast region,” said Bob Huffman, NS’s vp-intermodal operations. “We are ...
