Hino adding automated transmission

Eaton Corp. says its UltraShift Highway Value (HV) transmission will be offered by Hino Trucks on its 2009 model year 268A and 338 medium-duty trucks. According to Eaton, independent testing showed the UltraShift HV, an automated mechanical transmission, provided 6 to 19% fuel economy savings compared to conventional automatic transmissions with torque converters. The Eaton transmission, designed for Class 6 and 7 vehicles with 195 to 260 hp. diesel engines, handles torque outputs up to 660 lb.-ft. and loads up to 33,000 lbs. GVW.
